So I spilled water near my UPS, and quickly unplugged it and everything from it as a precaution in case any water got in it. Later when I went to power on a Thinkpad T23 I had plugged into it (battery is shot, so pulling it's power forced it down) the hard drive started making weird sounds and now refuses to come up.
This machine functions as a server for a couple applications I run, IRC bouncer, logger, etc. I run backups about once a week on it so I can recover, but it loks like it won't be until after christmas to get anything in. I figured I'd take the opportunity to give Linode a try, but looking at their options it's hard to stomach paying $20/month for a machine that has half the memory I was using and a fraction of the storage capacity. I had a 120GB HDD in this machine, and see that I can get a 1TB HDD from newegg for $100. If the linode doesn't perform then I was thinking of going that route. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any HDD size limitations on older machines? I can't find anything about it, but the largest HDD I can find that state T23 compatibility are 160GB, so I thought I'd check to see if anyone here knew one way or another. -- John D.
