One of the things that is supposed to be supplied when you get an IP via DHCP 
is the default route to send packets, along with the DNS servers to use.  It 
may have been that the default route you were given via DHCP was unusable, or 
that the routing internal to the ISP was broken such that packets sent 
couldn't contact it.

Out of curiosity, has anyone been able to make a modem connection with IPv6?
