It has come to my attention that my VPS is not reliable. I went the
cheap way out, now I have realized "I got what I paid for". I started
with a small company FiveBean, which was bought out by BlueMile. Most
likely, I'll end up going back to Linode.

I'm seeking a few bits of advice.

1. What tools can I use to monitor my VPS, such as DNS reliability, and
other downtime possibilities?
2. How should I approach my current provider with my issue? Using
Google hit information and my logs, I should be able to pinpoint certain
days/times which server was not responding to DNS requests.
3. If the issue is purely DNS related, can I implement some sort of
fail-over or backup DNS?
4. Do you folks think my provider should be accountable for the loss?

According to uptime, my server has not been physically powered off or
restarted in 100days, (most likely from my actions).

Oddly within the past few weeks I have only by chance discovered my VPS
was down, ie: ssh to server not responsive via domain name, and site not
responding. I contacted the provider and was informed they had an
incident with their DNS server. It went down due to and Electrician
causing a fault.

Now just today I have been trying to track my Google AdWords campaign.
Since Feb 16, Google has recorded 25 hits to my site. Checking my
Apache2 access log, I can only account for 14. At an average Cost per
Click of $2.05, that translates to over $28!

Don't laugh, but that is nearly three months worth of my fees for VPS,
at $10/month.

Thanks for taking the time to read and offer input.

Eric
