The first thing I suggest you do is to try to blow out any built-up dust in 
the laptop's heat sink.  Sometimes you can do this without taking it apart, 
depending on what kind of tools and/or vacuums you have.  [An air compressor 
does wonders, as can a shop vac.]

The next thing I suggest is trying to get your laptop to display the cpu and 
video chip temperatures.  That will at least give you a clue if that is indeed 
the problem.
