Chris, A smartphone in my opinion has been helpful in some scenarios. I have been able to remote servers when I had no other means like another computer. This doesn't happen often but there are times when I am at a diner or something and I get an email saying something is broke and can fix it with ConnectBot (Android app that allows you to connect over ssh). If it's quick I will fix it with my phone but if you need to do some stuff at a terminal with special characters, reading man pages or logs, or more than 20 character commands I find it much easier to do with a real keyboard. Is it worth the 100 bucks a month I pay not really in my opinion but neither are most plans for regular cell phones. But the times when I can fix something in 5 minutes without leaving the diner its worth it, otherwise I would have to cut my dinner short just to run home. -- Matthias A. Johnson
