Unfortunately, yes I would; the reason is that Microsoft has been exerting its patent rights on the FAT 32 implementation. The Linux vfat implementation that can read/write FAT 32 is still part of the mainstream kernel proper AFAIK.

Anyway -- glad you found a fix that works for you -- sounds like what you chose to do was fairly painless.
