Thanks guys, I went with just pinging once a minute and recording the output into a file. I'll dump that into a spreadsheet later to convert to hits and misses and see what I can figure out. Nagios seems like the best long term solution, but I don't see myself having the time to invest in the learning curve for a few months or so.
