While some distributions are specifically focused on recent hardware, others are more generic and are easily installed on an old machine (P3, P2, etc). For instance, there are kernel packages with the Debian distribution that are still compiled for a 486. That doesn't sound important, but it is, because there are modern ower-end processors (like the AMD Geode) that aren't designed to make use of an i686 kernel. Legacy OS currently seems a bit limited in terms of its package repository right now. It's ranked #84 at DistroWatch, which is higher than I had expected; that's above Novel SLE (90), NetBSD (102), Kantoix (109), and Edubuntu (116). -- Chris -- Chris Knadle [email protected] _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Jul 6 - Arduino-palooza Aug 3 - Scala - 100th MHVLUG meeting Sep 7 - DIY 3D Printing and the Makerbot Thing-o-Matic
