As long as the Google TV is left to TV mode when you are done driving you shouldn't have a problem. Then when your wife sits down the Google TV interface itself will be transparent and she can just use the DVR remote to watch television after turning on the display.
Of note, there is a great Logitech Harmony app for iPhone that you can use to control your entire Google TV rig. That's how I roll most of the time...
