Just addressing a conversation at the last meeting.
Someone had asked if I was able to get the Windows 8 Preview installed and
running in a VM.

So I grabbed the iso from the valid Microsoft site and was able to install
it under KVM/QEMU.
But it does not recognise the hardware so it's basically runs in what looks
like safe mode.
I then upgraded to Virtualbox 4.1.8 ( https://www.virtualbox.org ) I am
running on Ubuntu64 11.10
There are instructions on how to install by adding the repository so you
can apt-get install.
Under VirtualBox I was also able to install it, and it seems to have better
hardware emulations thus Win8 had the look and feel I expected.

Ok the problem I think you had, is the problem that I hit, which is you
really need a 4 CPU system with 8 GB or more memory to emulate what it
needs. I squeaked by with a 2 core AMD and 4 GB of memory:

System Requirements
Windows 8 Consumer Preview works great on the same hardware that powers
Windows 7:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device or higher
To use touch, you need a tablet or monitor that supports multitouch
To access Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an
active Internet
connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768
To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768
( note these are base requirements what is needed to get it running, not
running well )
