In GNOME 3.4, there will be a new app called Boxes which is designed for
desktop virtualization. It uses libvirt which manages KVM, Xen,
and VirtualBox VMs. It also supports KVM USB redirection.

KVM has support for the QXL virtual GPU architecture. QXL doesn't
currently support 3D (with a DRM kernel module implementing DRI2).
VirtualBox and VMware already have this. I know that Red Hat is working
on 3D but it I don't believe that it be available in the first half of
2012.

In Fedora 17, the llvmpipe X.org driver will be used for video hardware
that doesn't have DRI2 support in the kernel (like QXL). This will
allow GNOME 3 on Fedora 17 to run in a KVM VM. If other distros use
the llvmpipe driver, they also can get 3D support in KVM.
