Alan, For what it's worth, I still keep my email running at Pair Networks: http://www.pair.com Which also handles my web hosting, so it all comes together. I only do this for my own domains - my clients are over at Google Apps, or Tuffmail (which I also recommend ... http://www.tuffmail.com/ ) For my own domains, I prefer to keep the mail running through pair for a few reasons: - I have a Spamassassin learning program attached that automatically trains on anything I put in my _NotSpam or _Spam folder (imap, of course) - I have physical access to the mailbox files themselves, which allows for all the power of the UNIX filesystem and environment. - I can set up email addresses that trigger scripts ... EX: I have one address that starts an Amazon EC2 server if you mail to it. The downsides at Pair: - Webmail is a bit weak - Supporting clients is too time-consuming, because there's no setup help, and I can't just tell them "just use webmail". With Google Apps, I can do exactly that. Tell them to use webmail, or e-mail them the help page with client setup info for Outlook, etc. The key there is that I'm not running a business doing paid email support or PC support, so I need to be free of the tech support albatross that we call e-mail :) One final downside of Pair, if you're not already with them ... I hear that the new shared accounts don't give you physical mailbox access anymore. That's a big blow for guys like me. A dedicated server would return that access to me, but it's much more server than I need (or want to pay for) If you're not hosting anything, Pair won't rise to the top for you, but definitely have a look at Tuffmail as well.
