Hi folks - this is probably pretty basic, but I have been up all night and
am about to run the Motorcycle up to Hyde Park for some repair - just don't
have the time to go digging right now. It also isn't terribly urgent.

I decided - finally - to put Ubuntu 12 on my old desktop. Prior to this, I
have been using my old IBM laptop, but it's time to make some changes.

I dumped the latest distro from the Ubuntu page, burned a DVD and kicked
off the install.

When it came time to assign disk space, the disk selection box ONLY
contained my external MyBook 1Tb USB drive. I had no other indication that
my C or D disk (both with lots of space available) were known to the
system. Odd.

Of course, I figured "What the heck - let's see what it will do" knowing
full well that most likely, I would need to pull some odd USB-style tricks
to get the thing to boot - but hey - why not see what happens.

Well - as you probably know already - "No such device" is what happens and
I am driven immediately to the grub rescue prompt. CAn't even get back to
Windoze now. Sigh.

I need to get back to - at least - Windoze, but also need to know why my
other disks were not offered as options - since I probably have to put it
on one of the internals for this thing to work the easy way - right?

I haveit booted under the LiveCD and have a terminal up, will do a little
research of my own probably tomorrow - but if anyone in the group has a
nice easy fix for me, a direction would be appreciated

Thanks!

JC
