CD was successfully used on another install less than a week ago and "check sum"ed successfully just before the problem. Computer being used is an IBM think pad. Is it possible that they did something bios-cmos to "protect it." Computer had picked up a virus that wiped out the data and prevented operation of AVG. It had XP Service Pack 2 in it. I am using a 64 bit KDE 12.04 LTS CD that it check sum and "try Kubuntu"ed with no problems.

What is going wrong and what do I do about it.

Basically everyone having this problem (that i found in a google
search) solved it by re-downloading and recreating their install cd;
seems to likely be a botched burn or a botched download.
