I've been trying to find a recent, applicable tutorial/howto for this,
but haven't figured out the right Google keywords for it.
I had a T41 which we had handed down to our 7-year-old to use for
educational/kids sites (Disney Jr, Nick Jr, FunBrain, etc), but no
longer works due to the standard T40-series GPU failure. I have a T23 I
managed to get working with a USB wifi adapter under Mint14, but find
that I can't get Flash working on it. From what I can tell, the machine
is just too underpowered to run a recent flash player, but Flash is
needed for all these sites.
So my next thought was to use the T23 to remotely connect to my "media
center" computer in the living room (again, running Mint14). But there
I get stuck with how to make the process as simple as possible (not
because my daughter isn't computer saavy, but if she gets off on a
tangent with a complicated procedure, who *knows* where she'd end up).
I'm looking to have the system come up with an XDMCP or remote session,
and need it to have remote audio as well. I wouldn't want an
x11vnc-type solution, as the TV (for the media center PC) has a
different resolution than the T23.
Mind you, I have a budget of approximately $0 to do this with (otherwise
I could just buy a cheap used laptop that had better capability, or a
better machine and then hand her the HP ZX5000 *I'm* using)
