While I can't speak to the signal-strength of the "FIOS OEM" router, I can tell you that I've got two different routers in my basement, and both are happily able to hit my SECOND story without any real difficulty. Unless the Verizon router is truly abysmal, I can't picture it presenting a problem to keep the router in the basement. Home construction materials, etc., can and will impact your mileage. D
