OK net wizards, need a bit of help.
I got a used Hydra card on eBay, and only now had a chance to try it out. While I was
able to get the MNI driver for it to work, I can't seem to get on my network with it.
Thus I believe the likely culprit is:
1) bad card. I can in fact ping myself using miami, but I'm not sure if that proves
anything. But, the MNI stuff can in fact query the card, as can the 'hydra.device' I
got off aminet, also. So I'm not sure that the card is bad, and don't think it has
the typical 'eth-light' that more modern cards have (so you know they make a good
link).
2) wrong BNC cable. When I won the auction I was under the mistaken impression that
the card used cat5, but then when I got it, was corrected obviously to see that it
used BNC coax, part of the reason I took so long in bothering to use it. Are there
different types of BNC cable out there, and if so, any guide to what would be the
right type? I just went to Computer Renaissance and asked for BNC coax and they sold
me one.
3) bad BNC port on the hub. The hub works fine on its 'regular' ethernet ports, but
maybe the BNC port is bad, but then again, as that port likely got the least use, that
may not be, either.
Thoughts, anyone?
