If the alternator has 105K on it then its brushes and sliprings are also about worn out. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert McElwee To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, March 16, 2008 6:51 AM Subject: squeaky alternator - replace the bearing?
My 105K mile '91 has a squeaky alternator. I sprayed some silicon spray on the end of the pulley and the squeak stopped for a few seconds. I haven't investigated it past that. I see that I can buy a "alternator drive end bearing" for $22.79 and a "alternator commutator end bearing" for $10 or a remanufactured alternator for about $150 (I do have a spare or two here as well). 1) Which bearing do I have that is squeaking? 2) Do I replace the bearing, slap one of my old alternators on, or get a remanu'd part? (just looking for an opinion here) This is my wife's car so I wouldn't really want it to crap out on her some night. -- Robert McElwee and Red Beast 1991 T25 Turbo @ 15 PSI Link ECU, FMIC, WI, 9:1 pistons Over 400 lbs of "added lightness" www.lightweightmiata.com Lightweight Miata Forum: http://lightweightmiata.com/forum ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Miatapower mailing list [email protected] http://list.miatapower.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/miatapower
