I don't understand how this could be happening to you. When I look at how  
the ECU is hooked up to the wiring on the rest of the car I don't see how  
disconnecting the battery would be any different than turning the ignition key  
off. There is no power connected to the ECU with the car off weather the  
battery 
is hooked up or not as long as the ignition switch is off. 
 
I have never lost my saved tuning data or hard defaults and I've had it  
disconnected many many times.

Don't know either... I've always assumed that this was normal, hence my  
original question.
I'll monitor the settings and verify my assumption.
