OK. It's likely we can rule out the A/C, but a clutch issue seems just as
unlikely, since the chief complaint is that it happens at cruise, at a time
when the clutch is not in slip.

I forgot to add...the AC was NOT on at the time. In fact, I was practically
sweating because it was pouring rain but I didn't want to run the AC.

 Bucking - Update

All,

Here's a new twist. Today--in the middle of the busiest intersection in
the area--the car decided to buck and die as I was beginning to pull away from
the light. Not only did it do this, it threw a CEL that actually stayed on (no
flashing, just stayed on for the 3mi drive home).

The CEL: a P0340 - CMP Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Besides the CEL, I noticed something interesting. At the light previous, I
noticed what I could have sworn was clutch slip for just a bit before
everything finally bit and the car moved forward. It got me thinking...this
car has had a clutch that operated quite unlike both of my previous Miata's
clutches and the clutch in my Civic. What I'm thinking is that clutch
shudder/judder could be to blame. Can someone describe it to me? Is it
possible that the clutch violently slipping could be causing the drivetrain to
"juke" enough to cause what

are basically timing errors? Can I still
get the clutch replaced under recall?

-Bryan
