It is one of those things that seems to be the bane of the existence of lots
of NB owners--the Cam Position Sensor. Easy to replace, but always seems to
break down.

The factory uses M and K to differentiate. CMP is for the CaM Position
sensor, while CKP is the CranK Position sensor.

All,

Here's a new twist. Today--in the middle of the busiest intersection in the
area--the car decided to buck and die as I was beginning to pull away from
the light. Not only did it do this, it threw a CEL that actually stayed on
(no flashing, just stayed on for the 3mi drive home).

The CEL: a P0340 - CMP Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Besides the CEL, I noticed something interesting. At the light previous, I
noticed what I could have sworn was clutch slip for just a bit before
everything finally bit and the car moved forward. It got me thinking...this
car has had a clutch that operated quite unlike both of my previous Miata's
clutches and the clutch in my Civic. What I'm thinking is that clutch
shudder/judder could be to blame. Can someone describe it to me? Is it
possible that the clutch violently slipping could be causing the drivetrain
to "juke" enough to cause what are basically timing errors? Can I still get
the clutch replaced under recall?

-Bryan
