Decrease the compression in the ol' Bonneville and you can use  regular.  A 
drip-type top end cleaning to remove built up carbon  will lower the 
compression closer to normal (assuming the compression  hasn't already dropped 
due to 
engine wear).  A slight reduction in engine  timing may also reduce the 
likelihood of ping. Have you tried a Mid-Grade  Fuel compromise?  That would be 
the 
smart thing to  do.
