What Brad said. I kinda like hearing the opinions of a bunch of smart
people.

Please don't take this personally, I think it makes a good reminder to
all list members.

The letters NPC in a subject line mean "No Power Content." The letters
NMC mean "No Miata Content." They are self exclusive - I may want to
turbo my lawnmower - definitely power content, yet NMC. I may want to
get opinions about upholstery kits for my 1990 Miata - definitely miata
content yet NPC. I may to discuss the current flamingo in Croatia -
neither power nor Miata content so NMC and NPC.

The intent is to use your mail applications filtering system, if you
prefer, to automatically move content marked NPC and or NMC into a
different folder, or even delete it directly from the server before
downloading. May members (Larry is the first that springs to mind IIRC)
use this feature religiously. It's nice to know that I can talk smack
about him right behind his back only because he actively chooses to
ignore conversations about him... :P

About 95% of the time list members are accurately tagging their subject
lines. Occasionally a thread slips by, but normally the first or second
responder will add the tag to the thread for everyone else's benefit.

Personally I like to read the NPC and NMC material. I consider the vast
majority of the people on this list to be close, personal, yet largely
unmet friends of mine. I have been a member of this list for 10 years,
longer than I have known most of my real life friends. It's a way for us
to have conversations about things other that Miatae, largely because
this list has the best brainpower quotient than all but one of the
various internet based forums/email lists I belong to*. I know I can
come here for answers to questions ranging from atoms to electronics to
geothermal power and someone has an answer, or knows where to find a
really intelligent answer.

* The "winner" would be forums.compiz-fusion.org only because of the
amazing capabilities of the application programmers and the remarkable
things they do with Compiz Fusion. Don't believe me? Look up Compiz on
Youtube and be prepared to be amazed. Linux ain't what it used to be!
