Change the oil, make sure it's the correct weight and a synthetic and see if
it helps.

Subject: [OTM] Sound of turbo dieing?

My mom has a 2000 1.8T Beetle, about 70k miles, and she says that it's
recently developed a high pitch whine/squeak (I've never actually heard it)
when first started each morning. It's only the first start of the day and
it goes away after about 20-40 seconds. She got the belts replaced which
made no difference.

I'm wondering what the sound of a turbo's bearings going out is like? Do
they squeak until sufficient oil reaches them? Any other ideas of things to
check?

Thanks!

Mark
