Update, put it back together it smoked worse than ever significant amount of 
oil out the tailpipe. oil remains puddled up on the top of cylinder #1 after 
shutdown. It's like it has oil injection.

I took the head off and replaced it with a known good stock head. lots more 
ticking noise but no change in oil problem the car is like a mosquito fogger 
now. I  am pretty confident now it is oil getting past the rings but it 
still has good compression and there is no blowby or pressure in the oil pan 
or top of or crank case. any other time I've seen oil getting past the rings 
this bad the reason why was obvious. usually really damaged pistons and 
rings gummed up and stuck.

Looks like I'm going to miss FM open house :-(
