Easiest way:
Buy these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=330-079 http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=330-075 Wire as follows: Mount new 30/40amp relay near fans, drivers side headlight area tap primary fan hot leg, route to trigger of new relay (pin 86) Run new fused 30/40amp hot leg to new relay common (pin 30) Run new output of NO to AC fan (pin 87) Run new ground to new relay (pin 85) pin 87a unconnected. Done, AC will run with main fan from new power source. If you want to have it be an either/or deal with the ac triggering, a couple of diodes are probably needed. But, if you are running the AC, water temp will hit the primary fan trigger quick anyhow, so you wouldn't have to do that. Been spending some time in the Forum archives, and have seen ways to install your own manual switch, but not a simple relay solution (without a lot of re-wiring). The typical hot wire parallel mode works, but also stresses the fan relay. In my car, this caused bad things to happen after a few years. The contacts in the relay got flaky to the point the fans would run on their own with the car off. Sometimes they would do this after I walked away. Jumpering your car gets old. Replaced $30 relay and so far so good. So for my application, the typical parallel wiring mod has caused problems. With 80+ deg temps and my FM II, cruise temps on the HW creep up to 106/108. At 90+, it goes over 110. Running the AC fan (manually currently by turning my AC on) drops temps to the 102/104 range, so for me that fan seems to impede air flow when its not moving. My '92 has the standard FM II IC, dual core brass radiator, running about 66/33 ratio of coolant. I have installed the lower belly pan, trimmed the nose piece and run some duct tape between the nose and belly pan to try to force air through the IC rather then enabling it to run below.
