You could try a lower voltage wall wart... like 7.5 volts. No need for 1 amps either. Maybe 500ma.

Hi All,

I'm a software guy, and I know a bunch of you guys know how to fix electrical problems, so I was hoping you guys could help me with a little electrical problem I'm having.

No laughing please... :-)

I have one of those spinning shinny ball things on my desk, powered by a 9v battery:

However, it sucks batteries dry like there's no tomorrow, so when another piece of electrical equipment died and donated its 9v 2A wall wart to science, I decided to wire the adapter to my spinning shinny ball thing. There was no melting or smoke, so I thought I was good to go.

However, the problem is that the magnet is now too strong and the thing is trying to do complete 360s, except that its counterweight is too tall, so it's bonking into the base, disrupting the whole zen- meditation quality of staring at the spinning shinny balls.

Any idea what kind/value of resistor I would have to put in series in the circuit to bring the magnetic power level down to something more reasonable?

Thanks for helping me out with such a trivial problem! :-)

Mark
