I'm not 100% sure about the 96 Impreza, but the later model Impreza WRX
5-spd can easily be made into RWD by simply removing the front half-shafts.
That
might same some MPGs. Well, at least the car would be lighter.

hi all,

i found an AWD car that can do some towing, to replace my ranger. a 1996
Subaru Impreza 5spd 2.2l

gasaroo showed paople getting high 20's for MPG, while others reported mid
20's, but my first check shows 24 MPG (not towing anything)

I guess I was hoping for a little better since it';s a 5 speed and i dont
drive like a maniac.

any thoughts or experiences on a OTM that has AWD and can do light towing
(at least 1200lbs)?

if I didnt need AWD, I'd get a 94 - 97 Miata and put in big brakes and
obviously some kind of FM power mods and have a do-it-all car, but the end of
my
street is a water access point and I like to put my small boat in there every
so often. and we get snow a few times each winter.

also, any general subaru experiences would be great. so far, I notice the
car has a lot of torque at lower RPM,s from such a small displacement motor.
the impreza also tight and while not very sexy as a 4 door, has clean lines
and plenty of trunk space.

it only cost $1600 with 125k on the clock

anyone with any subaru (or other AWD/4WD) whats your everyday MPG?
