The cams can easily be changed without changing the timing belt or even 
removing anything beyond the valve cover and uppermost timing cover (even that 
one may not be completely necessary, I can't remember).  Mark the belt to cam 
gear position with a paint pen, hold the belt to the exhaust cam gear with 
something (binder clip, vice grips, etc.), and be sure not to move the crank 
while it's all disassembled.  You could even hold the existing intake gear to 
the timing belt, unbolt it from the cam, and make the swap.

  I think today is the day that I swap my intake camshaft. I'm wondering how 
close to a full timing belt change I have to go to do this. Any advice/tips on 
swapping it out without having to remove all the plastic covers or treat it as 
it if was a belt change? I'm guessing I need to move the tension pulley out of 
place and lock it down so I have some belt to play with. I recently changed 
camshaft seals. Do I need to do this again if I pull the shaft out of it?
