Can you say crap shoot boys and girls.

Of course it was on push rod engines but I've seen the new cam be put in the
engine and the lifters reused and the engine made those nice lobe shaped
bumps on the cam a pretty circle shape.

Not to say Ray and Larry aren't correct, because it is good practice to
always replace lifters and cams together. In some of my own cars I've had
maybe five different cams on the same lifters without any undue wear. YLWMV.

Nope, I had no idea that was even a concern. The plan is to put this cam in,
run it for 200 miles (long enough to prove that it does nothing for me <G>)
and then pull it back out. It sounds like what you and Ray are saying is
that I will wear out my lifters if I decide to run like this full time. I'll
definitely have to research new lifters.

A quick check on rockauto shows they are $22 each. I've never replaced
lifters before. Hard to do?

You do realize that lifters are considered matched to a not only the cam but
the specific lobe by the wear pattern they develop. So you're going to
replace the cam and reuse the lifters that have run with that cam on those
lobes?? Hope you're at least going to use a bunch of cam lube on the lobes
to help the engine at startup.
