i hooked up a sub panel with the well, oil burners, frig, tv and a couple lites. a 50 amp 240v line back fed this panel, when needed the "sub" breaker on the main panel was thrown and disconnected from the back feed while letting the power company be safe and letting me know when the power came back on. the thought of using 120v extention cords never occurred to me, (shutter).
