And why won't your scanner read the 02s?

Did you rewire back to stock completely? Ps wire hooked back up
to pump, etc? Doubt it would affect readiness, but worth a try.

I'm actually on my 2nd ECU. My stock one ran like crap (bucking
and not setting the monitors) so I swapped in a spare that I bought a
couple years ago when I suspected my original ecu of not working
correctly. The replacement runs fine. Very smooth. but the monitors
still don't set. And this new one indeed has about 500 miles on it.

I'd dearly love a hardware reset button.

                This may sound stupid but...

Is there some sort of "hardware reset" for the ECU? On
computers it would be the "BIOS Reset" jumper. There has to be a way of
resetting the eeprom on the stock ECU to factory fresh simply for
troubleshooting purposes.

Otherwise, is there another ECU in the area you can
borrow? Either from a 97 or 99?

no, I'm not getting a code. (I'd give an
eyetooth for an actual code, helpful or otherwise). it's just the
readiness monitors not setting. AFAIK, the monitors deal with both o2
sensors.

I will, however, recheck the sensor wiring. Wish
I could get the Scangauge to show o2 sensor output...
