Lee,

FYI - I have some 13725 connectors for sale.. $20 a mated pair, shipped. I
raided a local u-pick-it and ended up with about 6 or 7 pair of them. early
90's Dodge 3.3 and 3.5 V6's (lots of Caravans and Intrepids around here)

Contact me offlist if you want a pair, makes the swaps easy the next time.

Larry, Ray and & Bill

Thanks. I thought Bosch was a pretty good brand.

I've never gotten a code re sensor heater not working. I just keep getting
P0171 and the head guy at the auto tech dept. at the comm.. college said to
replace the sensor. I'm sure he knows his stuff -- he trains mechanics for
the NASCAR teams in his motor sports program and for the area auto dealers
in his auto tech program and he's got every piece of equipment, computers
and software known to man available, He hooked up to my ODB with a box that
talked wirelessly to his computers and he looked at a bunch of graphs,
etc., which were Greek to me, before telling me to replace the sensor.

The Bosch site says the part # is 13581 (OE type) or or 15730 (universal
type) http://tiny.cc/PW32z

http://www.boschautoparts.com/RB.NA.AFTERMARKET.BOSCHAUTOPARTS.CMS/templates/VehiclePartFinder/VehiclePartFinderResultsTemplate.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID=%7bB045EDBE-2735-4740-B308-1FE402C47E2A%7d&NRORIGINALURL=%2fResources%2fVehiclePartFinder%2fVehiclePartFinderResults%2ehtm%3fYear%3d2002%26Make%3dMAZDA%26Model%3dMIATA_%26Engine%3dL4%2b1%2e8%2bGAS&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest&Engine=L4+1.8+GAS&Model=MIATA_&Year=2002&Make=MAZDA

I'm trying to learn how to use tiny url -- both of the above links should
go to the same place if I got my first attempt correct

However, when looking at the pictures the OEM type 13581 @ $111.39 .looks
like it's ready to plug in and the universal type 15730 @ $49.79 needs to
be spliced. A splice to use the old connector can be made for $61.60!!

The Bosch 13275 @ $48.79 looks like it just plugs in but it is not for a
Miata (it's for a mid-90s Chrysler; however, it apparently works and maybe
better that the recommended replacement) but apparently the plug is
different but with some splicing it can be made to plug in. Here is a link
to a site where Cliff Knight used it on a 1999 Miata with a Radio Shack
274-224 Molex type connector:
http://mymiata.paladinmicro.com/Miata4-WireO2.htm

Why use the 13275 instead of the 15370 -- both require the splice but for
the price difference between the OEM plug in type splicing is worth the
time. Maybe Cliff Knight has done some research and determined the 13275 is
superior. He seems to know what he's doing!

The link to the Flyin Miata splicing instructions are for cars earlier than
my 2002. Still the same colors?

Use the Bosch 13275 sensor. You will have to splice the wires
but the sensor only costs 50 bucks. Last a week?? The guy is a
moron. Tell that to my 3 Miatas that have had them in the cars
            for years.

You can find the writing at the FM website

Subject: Pre cat Oxygen sensor for 2002 -- Mazda OEM or other
            brand?

After continuing to get the P0171, lean CEL, I took my
supercharged, intercooled 2002 Miata to the local tech
comm.college and the guru ran a computer program that looked at
my oxygen sensor. He said it was lazy -- that it did not read
fast enough (crossing the 440 line (or something like that) ,
up & down on the moving scale, indicating to him that it was
slow reading, else the up and down lines would have been
closer) and, therefore, my oxygen sensor should be replaced.

I think I have determined the Mazda part # to be BP6F18861B
(for pre cat) . I think that the one that is # BP6G18861C is
            the post cat sensor.

Anyway the local Mazda parts guy said "be sure to use Mazda
parts and not a cheap one like a Bosch, which may only last a
            week".

The OEM part # BP6F18861B is $180.90 @ Trussville Mazda. The
local Mazda guy said $295, installed. My generic mechanic said
install is $20, for the type with the wire connector. The
sensor just screws in and the wires just plug in.

Some sensors require you to use the old wire connector and
somehow connect the wires on the new sensor to the connector.

What do you experts think? Are the after market sensors like
Bosch and Walker ( # 25024128) to be avoided?
