This is typical of FWD (especially a relatively high, very nose heavy 
one . . .).

My mother had a similar "I couldn't believe that I could not stop . . . 
going down hill" in another FWD car.  You sound luckier.  In her case 
the person she impacted claimed whiplash. 

Think Porsche 911 for the best braking downhill.  Weight transfer is not 
your friend when you combine gravity and front heavy weight distribution.
