I've seen bad valve stem seals manifest themselves in other ways. I
had a Mitsubishi V6 motor that smoked at idle when hot, once you got
moving it was fine. I fitted new stem seals and the problem went away
completely. A symptom/issue with that motor when they get older
apparently.
