Transmission #5. I need to sell a GTX to get a Quaife gearset. Money is a
bit tight right now with the wife laid off.
I think I was leving some time out there. I thought I could get the record.
I had a couple of things I wanted to try differently when the transmission
broke. The third to last corner was tricky to figure out the fastest line
through. In the end I think the answer was brake hard in a straight line
coming off the sweeper and stay slow and very tight all the way around it. I
think it would allow more speed deeper coming off the big sweeper and a
better line for more speed throught the next two corners and onto the front
strait. I didnt get a chance to try it quite like that, I tried a bunch of
things that didn't work so well.

Car is kind of an over the top daily driver/track car the heart of which is
an FM 2L stroker motor.
Made a surprising nearly 400hp with just the local 91 Octane Pump gas and
17lbs of boost supplied on the FM dyno the day before.
It has a GT3071R turbo and probably the only major difference from the other
whole enchilada big 2.0L GT3071R kits a few others have slapped together is
my own weld ell turbo manifold, 3" exhaust and my own intercooler and
plumbing setup. I think the manifold might be getting me something. It has
fairly long equal length runners compared to others I have seen. Quite a few
other custom installation details have been done to it as well for cooling
and fuel delivery.

Chassis is seam welded with FM frame rails and hard dog door bars. also have
other custom sub braces under fender braces and such. Probably about as
stiff as anybody has reasonably made a 1st gen miata without a full cage.
Suspension is just revalved Koni Sports with 550/350 springs and my own
custom extended travel shock tops. Racing beat big hollow front bar and
stock rear. Tires were 3/4 tread RA-1's mounted on 15X9" 6Ul's. After that
trip they are now at the proper tread depth for track use. Brakes are also a
custom setup I bolted on a kit from Wilwood for a Mini Cooper that has
11.75" rotors and Dyna-Pro calipers. 11.44" rear. With all the stuff on it I
think it weighs nearly 2300 lbs.
