The street one made me laugh, that's awesome! :)
I am looking at the IO port, was the first choice in fact. I like the
simplicity of your heavier mount, which is what I had in mind. This would
be for track use, and I only have a horizontal harness bar in the RX7 to
work with. The Miata could be outfitted the same, tho, since I have the
same bar in roughly the same place.
Do you have any sample video from the heavier mount?

I've personally found that the more solid the mount is with an image
stabilized recorder, the better the quality. I've used the IO mount
with rubber isolator in the same car and the solid arm produces better
results. It's almost as if the damper wreaks havoc with the image
stabilization.
That's just an exhaust clamp with a hose on the Ubolt and the armature
welded up to the flat piece. It will handle a larger camera fine.
