Many surgical procedures, if not all, are first done on animals. Rats,
Cats, Dogs, Pigs, Horses, Cows....
Veterinarians, by and large, are compassionate health care providers who
are often forced to turn away suffering animals because their "owners"
either can't pay the bill or refuse to pay it. Sometimes a Vet will perform
surgery and eat the bill, because he or she is willing to provide a service to
save someone's friend. The majority of independent veterinary hospitals
are just getting by, despite pricing that seems extreme considering the
often diminuitive size of their patients, but, compare the cost of Veterinary
care to that of Human care and you'll notice a drastic difference. In
truth, the problem goes back to the Olde English Class system. Physicians are
upper class. They are the barons of health care. The manor houses we call
Hospitals demand an incredible amount of money to operate. Someone must
pay the bills. Mercedes, BMWs, Cadillacs... Country Club memberships... Big
houses in the country... All of that costs Big Bucks!
To be fair, new medical equipment is very costly, as well. The small town
Doctor who still makes house calls can't afford to buy such equipment for
his office, and this gets frustrating, so he closes his practice and moves
to the big city, leaving those who have not with nowhere to turn for health
care.

It's all economics. The year is 2009. Why has no one corrected this mess
yet?
Congress should work together to find an acceptable solution.
