Soooo... it was the front main seal. Fixed it, no more leaks. And FWIW,
you can idle the car without the pulley, just make sure you put the bolt in
or you'll get hit in the noggin when the key comes out (oops). Ran the car
for a couple of minutes until it started to seep. The seal was screwed up,
the spring had jumped the track and the seal contact at the crank had a
gouge in it at the same location, allowing for much oozing.

We finished up prep for Grattan, had a bad rear caliper that needed to be
replaced, a front Wilwood dynalite caliper froze so we stole one off the
Sub, got harnesses installed, yada yada.

Then the tranny came apart on lap 3 (first 2 laps were under caution, no
less.. 3rd lap he hadn't even WOT the car yet).. 3rd gear exploded. So,
all that work for nothing. MAN I love cars!

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions, helpful advice and instruction.
I hope he doesn't get too discouraged, tranny failure is common enough that
this isn't a complete anomaly. So, maybe by spring *he* can whittle down
the long list of issues and have a fairly sold car. I'll be busy
transplanting my running LT1/T56 combo from an 87 Turbo II RX7 to a 91 Vert
RX7 that I bought yesterday (gotta be topless!)

Thanks again!
Wallyman
