Rubber lines can break down over time, and the fluid gets contaminated,  
turning light/clear fluid darker.  Air/water in the fluid is bad. Very high  
heat can be bad (so one must use a higher heat fluid if one expects to be 
racing  or doing anything that will require lots of brake/clutch use).  If you  
don't have metal braided lines in the brake/clutch system, you'd probably  
benefit from them, or at least a change in the old rubber lines to new 
rubber  lines.  
Cold temps turn most fluids thick, and that's why those in Cold Winter  
areas should use lighter viscosity engine oils.  Brake fluid is usually of  
light viscosity, and I don't know whether you'll find a "Winter Blend", as I've 
 not looked for one.  I'd say that it is time to change that brake/clutch  
fluid, though.
