It would seem that oil is slowly dripping or seeping into the combustion  
chamber after the engine is shut down.  That would explain smoke at  
start-up.  If the engine is turboed and there is oil in the intake piping,  the 
turbo's oil seal(s) may be failing. Then again, a small amount of oil in the  
intake may be the result of venting from the crankcase/cam cover back into the 
 intercooler piping.
