CONFRIMED: The torque converter is on wrong.  I still have to pull the
engine to correct it.

I got the car a lot higher off the ground and was able to peer through the
inspection hole.  The nuts on the TC studs are contacting the engine block
and the flexplate is bent.

This 100% jives with Bill's diagnosis, and also with what I found on
ALLDATA.

I have a spare flexplate, so there's no harm done...  Ahh.. Lessons learned.
