I run the Optima yellow top D35R. Awesome battery, it's deep cycle so you can 
kill it and it comes back for more( that is, it can be recharged after being 
flattened and is happy about it). It's an AGM battery so it won't leak acid in 
your trunk. It bigger than the stock battery so has more cranking power, and it 
installs easily. Just pick up an 8" battery J-bolt at your local autoparts 
store. Use the j bolt with the stock mounting hardware and it will be very 
securely held down. I have one in each Miata. More expensive than the walmat 
cheepies, but IMHO worth every penny.
