We started with the typical discussion of car info, driver info etc and the fact that he had never driven this track before. BTW, he was running in Blue Group based on his “write-up” on himself. I told him we needed to go out and run the track a few laps at 50% so he could get the line and then we would work our speed up moving his line as needed to suit the way the car handled. By the time we exited turn 2 we were running at 100% and he was not only not listening to anything I was trying to teach him we never entered or exited a turn the same way twice. After about 5 laps of me yelling at him in the intercom and pointing him into the pits I just gave up, sat back, crossed my arms and let him drive. After a few more laps the car overheated and he had to pit. I took my headset, got out of the car and left him and his “posse” from the shop he works at to try to fix the car. I went and found the head instructor and told him I wasn’t getting back in that car since the only reason I hadn’t died was the guy had 4 wheel drive and ABS and it saved our asses more than once. He put another instructor in the car with the guy and they never drove again until 4PM when the car was “fixed”. Mean time unknown to me he had gone over to a group of guys a friend of mine was driving with and told them he didn’t understand what had happened other than he must have been too fast and he scared me. HA!!! The other instructor ran 3 laps with him and yelled at him at the top of his lungs to slow the car down and start listening and maybe he could learn something. End of day. They put the car in the trailer, hitched to their tow vehicle and left it at the track and left in other cars. Never saw them again that night or the rest of the next day. When we left the track Sunday night at 5 PM the rig was still sitting there by itself. We were all taking bets on what happened to them. He had been drag racing one time, and felt that his experience playing Gran Tourismo, as well as his bitchin' ride qualified him for a fast run group. The guy was brutal, and was virtually pulling the gear shift out by the roots on every shift, and due to his superior horse power was running everybody off the road down the straight before slowing to a crawl in the corners. He had the nerve to HONK HIS HORN down the straight to clear the way for his wonder-barge. I couldn't believe it. Actually honking the horn on the race track.... That didn't last long, as I threatened to haul him in if he didn't behave. I started to wonder if my chosen recreation would end with me paralyzed or dead as this guy hauled us around the track at 120mph... and only a factory seat belt between me and a guard rail. Finally, he and his buddy caught up to each other and started acting foolish as they tried to make dangerous passes on each other. At that point, I pulled them both in to the pits and told them if they wanted to have a high speed dick measuring contest, that they could do it on another focking track with another instructor. Shape up or hit the road home and never come back. As luck would have it, the guy ran over a nail in the next session. He had a brilliant solution, though - he ran a drywall screw into the hole and wanted to get back out on the track. I decided that I like life too much, and hung up my instructor shirt. I hate to sound like an old guy.... but back in the day when everyone had a 100hp 2002Tii or 914, it was more fun. -Chuck On 7/31/2010 11:08 AM, Larry Alster wrote: I had a student like that this April Was only the 2nd time I’ve ever had a “bad” student but this guy was WAY over the top.
