If the builder left the obdii plug in the harness you should be able to pull codes. What brand kit is it?

So a Lotus 7 style kit car has founds it way into the garage. The good thing is it's Miata based, at least the front end of the car is. Miata engine and trans, front up-rights and brakes. I think the engine is a 2002. The problem is the engine does not like starting when warm/hot. If you let it cool down a little it starts OK. Can someone point me in a good place to start. It's an ODB2 car so can I get an error code? Thanks Graham
