96 added a crank sensor for misfire detection for OBDII.  Not used to
run the car, but measures acceleration rate of the crankshaft to spot
misfires.

I though the 1.8 had a cam angle sensor on the back of the head.  Is
there a crank angle sensor, too?

Maybe I'm confused.  I have a 96 that I will be parting out soon,
though, if you need anything.
With a name like Broussard you might just be in my neck of the woods.
