I wouldn't be too shy, but you'll get an idea when you drop the baffle
on how much squishes out. Mazda has never been shy with it themselves.

Awesome. Thanks, Bill. Exactly what I was after! How wide of a bead
should I be putting down? Looking at Keith's Targa build pics, the bead
looks really fat:

Is there any danger of too much squishing out to the inside of the pan?
Should I let it set up for a day with light tension on the bolts before
torquing it down?

When I removed the pan, I found some pieces (strands) of what looked
like white sealant hanging from the oil pickup screen. Pan looks like
it's never been off before, so I'm wondering what that might have been.
Whatever it was I really hope none of it got past the screen!

The Right Stuff cheeze whiz can will work fine. I do use it on
the seals, too. Once you put the first bead down, drop the baffle on and
put four bolts in to locate it while you loctite and tighten the oil
pickup bolts. Pul them out and the baffle should line up nicely when you
put the pan on.

Hey kids. Anybody have any words of wisdom when putting an oil
pan back on? I was planning to use "The Right Stuff" to seal it but I'm
afraid the cheese whiz type can I have may make it unwieldy and produce
too small of a bead. Also, the little half round gasket deals on the
ends - how do you get them to stay in place? Do they get silicone / RTV
too? I really don't wanna do this twice! :-)

Also, shout out to Ross for helping with the engine removal. 3
people made it a more calm experience than it might have been otherwise!
