Heh, if you don't know the donor year, you may be in for a fun experience. :) And by fun I mean the swearing, throwing things, cursing Mazda kind of fun. I had the same enjoyment working on the S4 RX7 wiring in my S5 RX7.. same body style & components, different pinouts and wire colors. Was funny to the point of turning on the wipers lit up the high beams, but then the swearing part started....
Figure out what you have, then you'll be in good shape. The original builder cut into the wiring harness to remove the column stalk controls, he turned them into switched on the central console. I only need the left stalk to run the car so I want to re-install the stalk unit and only use the left stalk. It will give me all the control I need and it will also give me cancelling turn signals. I picked up a stalk setup and a chunk of the original wiring harness with the necessary plugs on it. What I need is some online wiring harness diagrams, preferably in color so I can re-connect the stalk plug to the harness.
