I had a strange beeping sound in my stock engined 2001 Miata LS this
morning for the duration of my 20 minute drive to work. 101K on the
odometer.
I first noticed it about an eight of a mile from the house and thought
it was some construction equipment with the alarm reverse beeper just
over the hill from the stop sign. That's what it sounded like and it
was coming from about 10 o'clock of my current direction which was
directly in line for a construction company's equipment lot.
After I turned away from that direction the sound went away and I
didn't think any more about it … for about a mile or so, when it came
back, still from about 10 o'clock. That got my attention, so I began to
monitor the direction and my driving activity to try to determine if it
was some kind of car system failure alarm.
The sound is very much like a back up alarm in tone, pitch and
frequency, but faint - not blaring like the seat belt buzzer or other
in-dash alarms. It comes and goes, and I was not able to cause it to
happen or to stop. I thought it might be something evil in the book on
CD I'm listening to, so I tried volume as well as the various radio
settings and powered off the audio system completely. No direct
relationship could be determined.
It seems to be coming from the lower left area of the dash, more or
less behind the left vent nozzle.
Anyone with a suggestion?
Thanks,
El Brown-O-
