First, clean the drains. They are located at the base of the seatbelt
towers behind the door. If the top is partially up, you can reach in, raise
the flap of carpet. Clean any debris located in this area. There is a 1/2
inch drain hole that can be cleaned with a rod. You can use a straightened
coat hanger and push it all the way through and out the bottom of the car.
There is a 'one way' flapper in this drain tube. Push through it from the
top and pull out from the bottom until all the gunk is cleared. .

Second, its quite possible the top is leaking and the rain rail is shot.
The rain rail gets brittle at this age and can crack or split open. It can
be patched (using gutter sealer), but more likely than not you are better
off replacing it.

A cheap top and rain rail can be bought for about $300 + installation. I
suggest http://www.miatatopsource.com. If you are in my area (Cincinnati),
I install tops for $275-375, depending on options.
